The game plays as an isometric platformer. You play through each of the three films from episodes 1 to 3, unlocking extra characters on your way. As you complete each level in story mode it unlocks it for freeplay mode so you can go back and get to areas previously unavailable. I completed story mode, but never got around to completing the freeplay mode (I did start). Other gaming commitments came in and I never picked this up again. It didn't quite have the same replay pulling power as my other games. Overall Score 6/10. Star Wars Lethal AlliancePosted 08-Mar-08 22:35:38 GMT Listed Star Wars Lethal Alliance for the DS on e-bay today. Being a Star Wars fan I'm pretty much sold on all Star Wars games. I like finding out about other areas of the Star Wars universe outside of the films. In this game you play as a rebel female twi'lek and her droid. You follow them through the story solving puzzles and killing storm troopers on the way. It's a pretty linear game, it pretty much aims for you, and the puzzles are quite samey. You basically have to walk and shoot and dodge your way through. It's not all simple though, I found some of the puzzles took a numbe of attempts to solve, and the bosses weren't exactly easy either. The balance was just right. Not a lot of replay value. The story is told and that's all there is to it. Overall Score : 7/10 New Super Mario BrosPosted 08-Mar-08 22:27:24 GMT Listed New Super Mario Bros on e-bay today. This was the game that sold me the Nintendo DS. And what a game! It's your standard mario game from back in the SNES days - a 2D side scroller (or 2.5D if you count the 3Dness of the characters). There are 8 worlds in total, but you don't need to complete all levels to complete the story. Some worlds have warp zones that can skip you past a lot of the game. I found one of these early on so completed the story quite quickly. However, in each level there are large coins you can collect. I spent another two weeks just playing through making sure I had found everything. Even then I checked a guide online and found a few more secret areas I had missed. Great fun. Overall Score : 10/10 Lego Star Wars IIPosted 08-Mar-08 22:21:29 GMT Listed Lego Star Wars II for the Nintendo DS today on e-bay today. I bought it for the DS because at the time it was the only games console I owned. I now own Lego Star Wars the Complete Saga on my Xbox 360, and would recommend that over the DS version if you have access to one (how's that for impartial? I'm trying to flog it!). You progress through the game in story mode by completing chapters from each of the three films. On you way you collect lego studs which are a form of currency in game. You can use these to buy extra characters for use in freeplay mode. In freeplay mode you get to revisit areas you couldn't get to in story mode by using the new characters. This allows for a lot of replay value. I do have a couple of gripes with it though, the game is pretty buggy in freeplay mode. I ended up playing some levels 2 or 3 times to get through them without it getting me stuck somewhere. I also couldn't get the game 100% complete because of it. Good job it was fun enough for me to look past these flaws! Overall Score : 7/10 Super Mario 64 DSPosted 08-Mar-08 22:12:37 GMT Listed Super Mario 64 DS on e-bay today. Had this game for several months before I actually got around to playing it. I was initially put off by the controls, using the d-pad didn't seem natural at first. I gave the thumb stylus a go, and once I got used to that I couldn't put this game down! The idea of the game, as with any Mario game, is to rescue the princess. As usual it involves collecting stars. There are 150 of them scattered around the world. Each level is behind a door in a castle, of which you can play several variations of the same map. You don't need all the stars to complete the story, you advance through the game by collecting enough stars to open the next door in the castle. After I completed the story, I still wanted more. I ended up collecting all 150 in the end. Okay, I admit that I used a guide to get the last few stragglers, but I gave it a good go finding all of them on my own. Overall Score 9/10 |
