New Dog Toyah the German Shepherd

Toyahs Tale

Following the sad loss of our beloved boxer / cross dog just before his 16th birthday we decided to get another dog, this is her story so far.

TOYAHS TALE

She had been straying in the Cookstown area for a couple of weeks, a man took her in and looked after her for a couple of days then handed her into the Pound. Amber was being brought in to be destroyed as no one had reported her missing during those 2 weeks.

One of the assis supporters helps with Assisi's "Chance of a Lifetime" by calling at the Cookstown Pound and rescuing dogs that are due to by destroyed.   http://www.assisi.dnet.co.uk
She asked for the GS and the Dog Warden was happy to hand her over to their care. She was in very poor condition extremely thin and was put on a special diet to build her up, once she had gained some weight, they got her vaccinated, vet checked and she was pronounced fit to travel, they took her across to Kenilworth Dogs Trust.http://www.dogstrust.org.uk/
At Kenilworth Amber was neutered, she was ill for a while so was put on a special diet, but soon became well enough to be rehomed.

Amber was renamed Toyah by us and is slowly putting on weight and has become a much loved member of our family, she is believed to be approx three years old.

Hi,
She has certainly made it her home, and seems to have settled on the chewing front!! She started of stealing shoes and shoes to chew, even though she has plenty of toys, at worst one morning I awoke to find she had chewed my leather chair!!
She is full of energy despite having 3 walks a day and she is one who loves the rainy weather as she likes to run splashing through the muddly puddles!!

Well time flies as they say! Toyah will be with us a year in March. Thankfully the chewing of things not belonging to her seems to have stopped! although she is crated overnight. She hasnt lost her chewing instinct though! She loves to chew leather footballs! The only toys she is really interested in are ball ones, some have to be taken away once they start to show signs of wear!! Its typical a shop full of great pet toys and she isnt interested!!!
She is due her booster injection at vets soon! She has only needed a trip to vet once since we have had her, we were told she had like doggy flu! She quickly recovered thankfully :-)
She has brought us hours of fun and fasination so far and hopefully years more to come!!
At the very least the kids dont leave their shoes all over the house anymore!!!

I am so happy for Toyah the German Shepherd. It is lovely to hear stories of people
helping these animals in need and taking them into their homes where they will live out their lives with love and care.
I have just lost my German Shepherd Zoew who had just turned 13 years. I decided to go to our RSPCA and choose a dog that needed a home. So now I have Molly a Labrador Cross, Black, 9 months old. She is adoreable although very boisterous and a great digger, my backyard looking like a mine field, but who cares! She loves playing with my Border Collie Ned who is 8 years old and he keeps Molly in line. I live in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. We have a great RSPCA and to know that many animals have a chance in life to be cared for and loved really makes my day.

toyah is gorgeuss!! i have a 5yr old shep named elsa, theyre fabulous dogs, mine has never chewed anything but she does have her faults. she is a rather smelly dog even when bathed and she could fart for england!! especially embarassing when you have visitors haha.she also barks a lot when she goes in the yard and sadly my neighbours reported her to the antisocial behaviour department (thank goodness they dont give asbo's to dogs) they also lied and said she had been out there 4days and nights without food and water!! ironic, my dog wouldnt know what it was to spend a night outside since she sleeps on the end of my bed! some people just dont like dogs i guess? or maybe they dont like me haha? either way they shouldnt take it out on my poor furry kid! anyway im so glad toyah is loved and cared for she is a beauty, look after her and im sure she will look after you.
