Here's a great new scrapbooking idea for today's blog.....
Or maybe it's an old idea you've seen before and forgotten about!
I was reading an article recently about making custom collage tags and decided that I hadn't made any in ages, so here we go!
First off, scour the house for lots of fun little bits! Some of the things I like to drag out are bits of antique lace, buttons, assorted silk, paper, and plastic flowers, bottle caps, bits of my favorite papers, scrapbooking fibers, and anything else that appeals to my creativity!
To get started making my collage tags, I used pre-cut tags, but you can certainly use your favorite die cutting machine, specialty scissors, punches, templates, or even cut free form tags! The fun of collage tags is that you don't have to run out and buy anything special to make them! Next, I made a REALLY STRONG cup of my favorite herbal tea! This part is optional, and the fun of it is you can drink the tea while you're playing with your scrapbooking toys, or you can use it as I used mine....
I dipped my tag of choice in the tea, letting it sit there a good long time..... This gave my tag a really nice vintage look (after it dried, of course) and also a wonderful scent!
After my tag was totally dry, I played with my chalks and distressing materials and gave it a nice distressed edging and this gave the vintage appearance a nice ring of truth!
Now for the fun of it! I added irregularly shaped pieces of some of my favorite papers, making sure to stay very random and leave some of my edging to show. Then I added some bits of antique lace, a button or two, a bit of fiber, and a few flowers and pieces of flowers!
This was a wonderfully fun project that will make a great addition to the newest layout I'm working on, and it only took me about 45 minutes once my tag was dry and my materials were gathered!
I'll post a few pictures as soon as the layout is done..... In the meantime, why not try a few collage tags of your own???? I'd love to see what you come up with!
