Hi Again!

It has been a hectic/frustrating/busy week here. After not posting a blog entry for a while, I was fully prepared to do one this week (last night). But, as the week went by, life on the Internet started getting annoying. We were losing our DSL connection 3-4 times a day, each time requiring powering off and resetting the DSL modem and wireless router. Not difficult, but quite annoying and disruptive to whatever process being done at the time. Well, as luck would have it, the modem totally crapped out on Sunday afternoon, about an hour before our 35+ auctions closed. Spent some time on the phone with the AT&T/PacBell support center and wound up making a run to Fry's Electronics at 6:55. Got the Internet connection working with the new modem by 8pm or so. Unfortunately, the wireless router doesn't play too well with the new modem, so only one computer is online and there are cables all over the place. Looks like a trip to the Apple store later today to get one of their Airport Extreme wireless devices. Wonderful.

This wouldn't have been so bad if I had not had to put on the boxing gloves with eBay earlier in the day. Before noon I got an email from them saying they had cancelled one of my listings. It was auction number 330285399438 for Scott #150, a 10c Thomas Jefferson, National Bank Note Company stamp from 1870. The reason was fairly vague, but it made references to issues with counterfeit currency and stamps. Huh????? This listing was for an AUTHENTIC stamp, and was not much different than hundreds of other auctions we've run for bank note stamps over the years. So, I tried resolving it with their online "chat" support. Totally useless. I called the support phone number they had given me last year. Actually, I had to call several times, as I kept getting bogus information from them. I finally demanded to speak with a supervisor. He told me the he would contact the "Trust & Safety" department to find out SPECIFICALLY why this listing was blown away. I am still waiting to get a response from them.

So, if you were bidding on that particular stamp, your bid was canceled by the eBay Gestapo, not by me. I will re-list the stamp when I have been assured that whatever caused it to get flagged by their lame software has been corrected. As I mentioned, this listing was basically no different than hundreds of others we run.

Anyway, our image hosting and auction management site (Inkfrog.com) worked beautifully and launched our items last night for us, even though our own computers were off the Internet! We launched 32 new auctions last night, with most being from the 19th century. Listed were: a very nice looking Scott 229 (small surface scuff), quite a few of the BEP issues, starting at Scott 246, a few Trans-Miss stamps, Scott 310 (50c) and 311 ($1), some Louisiana Purchase issues, never hinged Norse-Americans, mint Harding issues, a used Pilgrim set, several Washington-Franklin sets (always fun to ID...!!) Yukon-Pacific, Hudson-Fulton, and the Panama-Pacific issues.

Also, if you happen to collect stamps from the Philippine Islands, take a look in our eBay store. There is a nice offering of mint, never hinged blocks of four of quite a few different Phil stamps - 82 blocks in all. There are some from the back of the book (18) and the other 62 start at Scott 340 and go up through 1162. We have a HUGE carton of Philippine stamps and will be placing them up in the eBay store for your consideration, as time permits. There may also be some sets & singles from Canal Zone and Puerto Rico as we've come across a few in this carton.

Good luck bidding and enjoy the lull before the Thanksgiving shopping barrage!

Hi Everyone! We got 27 stamp auctions launched this evening - 25 from the US, one auction of stamps from French Polynesia (Fr. Oceania) and one auction of stamps from Hawaii. The French Polynesia auction is for ten mint never hinged overprints  from 1941 - Scott 126 through 135. They are a very nice set and one probably not found in most collections - catalog value for these 10 stamps is $290!!

Our US auctions this evening start with a nice Scott 24, a couple of the 1869 pictorials, a whole bunch of the bank note issues, a Harding imperf block of four, a never hinged Scott 537, an excellent (XF-S) Scott 573, the $5 regular issue. And, towards the end you'll find the 1938 Presidential issue up through the $2 stamp (Scott 833) mint, and the coil singles of that series - Scott 839-851.

Nice stamps, no shipping charges, and 99 cent starting bids on all - what more can you ask for!

Good luck on your bidding!

Tonight (Sunday, 10/19) we were able to get 54 stamp auctions up on the block. It's been a while since we've had that number go up for bid. Actually I am surprised at the number of auctions, as two full days were taken off for non-eBay activities this week. One fun thing we did as a family was to go over to the old Alameda Naval Air Station and take a tour of the USS Hornet WWII Aircraft Carrier.  A very interesting thing to do, and I highly recommend it if you are in the area.

The stamps in this week's auctions came from a collection we recently purchased for breakdown. For the most part, they are in really good condition. Most are centered quite well, although you will see an occasional one out of whack.  As is normally the case, we're starting up front in the collection with the early 19th century items and marching right through to the end. So, you'll find a lot of nice used bank note issues (large and small), a handful of 1893 Columbians, some of the BEP regular issues (Scott 264 - 284), two nice used Trans-Miss issues, the 50-cent and $1 stamps from the 1902-03 series, regular issues in the 319 - 606 range, a mint Huguenot-Walloon set, and mint Lexington-Concord set. We then get into the back of the book stuff with the Scott C20-C22 set mint, and a nice group of mint airmails from C7 to C19. The Special Handling mint set (QE1-QE4) is there, and seven auctions for some of the very early postage dues.

Have fun!

Hi folks! Anilea and I just got back from a really terrific day at the San Francisco Zoo with our 7-month old son and my wife's parents who are here from the Philippines. What gorgeous weather it was! This is absolutely the best time of year to visit SF - no fog, no rain, just excellent weather. Smallish zoo (compared to San Diego's) but for a 50 minute drive from home, not too bad at all.

OK - on to the stamps for this week! We are launching 32 auctions this evening - all back of the book! Got a couple Special Delivery (E3, E4, E5-E9, E14-23), A mint/hinged J1 Postage Due, a mint/hinged Registry stamp (F1), several other Postage Dues, the entire set of Parcel Post used (Q1 - Q12), The entire set of four Special Handling stamps mint (QE1 - QE4), 14 auctions of real nice Official stamps, and six auctions of US Revenue stamps, mostly used. The Revenues are real nice, too - mostly "First Issue" and quite a few up in the $1, $2, etc. denomination range.

Have fun with our back of the book offerings this week and good luck!

This evening (10/05) we released 15 stamp auctions and one auction of scarlet macaw red body feathers (155+). The stamp auctions, although few in number, are high in the number of stamps being offered - mostly sets and groups. There are lots of 20's and 30's mint commeratives, several souvenir sheet auctions, the National Parks (perf and imperf), the 1938 Presidentials (most MNH), the 1939 Presidential coils,  the Famous Americans (most MNH), and several auctions of US airmail stamps.

Geeze, it sure is nice to have the digital camera back from the shop and not have to use that dang scanner!

Do you collect back-of-the-book (BOB) stamps? If so, next week will be a good one for you to look into our auctions. We'll have auctions that are all BOB, with Special Delivery, Postage Due, Parcel Post, Officials, and several hundred dollars worth of Revenue stamps - first and second issues.

Thanks for your interest in our offerings! Don't forget to take advantage of our free shipping for the remainder of 2008, and good luck with your bidding.
