Games Part 2: More HomebrewPosted 20-Nov-07 12:09:45 GMT Updated 20-Nov-07 12:39:58 GMT The Classic Game Ports and More The strongest feature of the GP2X is the open source nature of the console. Homebrew game development is alive and well. There are so many great ports of classic game that add even more value to the GP2x. The best part is all of these ports are free, the talented programmers only port the games for your enjoyment. Some shining examples include Ultima VII - The Black Gate and Serpent Isle (with full sound including voices!), Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem 3D, Decent, Transport Tycoom, and i could go on. A great GP2X port is ScummVM which enables the lucky owner to play almost all of the classic adventure games of the 80s and 90s. In order to run any of the above games all you need is your original copy of the game, a sd card, and any of these great programs and voila you are playing quake on a hand held. The best part of these ports is many of these games have become public domain. So if you dont own a copy of the game you can freely and legally download yourself a piece of gaming history. Here is a just a few of the many classic game ports available for the GP2X. Ultima 7
