Amish Fruit Cake

Today is cold and rainy out and I am sick with a cold myself so I decided to start some baking for Christmas.  Or fermenting, anyway!  I had some Amish fruitcake starter in the freezer so I combined it with some sugar and a can of peaches.  The recipe says to wait 10 days then add more stuff and ferment some more, but I think I will speed things along a bit.  So I added some orange liquer!  I have to have these cakes ready to give as gifts for Christmas...Any other bakers out there?  I found a good rum cake recipe in the local paper and will try that out too.

No bids yet on my grizzly cub painting!  Oh well, I like looking at it anyway.  I think I will do some ACEOs later, or participate in the eBay artists group ALA's Working Dog Challenge and paint a blue heeler working cattle!

New Fun Oil Painting Original Grizzly Cub by me!

We are finally getting some rain and cool weather in Georgia, and the fall leaves are gorgeous!  I was inspired to do a fall painting.  I had just watched a show about grizzly bears, "Growing Up Grizzly II" on Animal Planet, and I was struck by the sense of fun that the young bears had.  I looked through a reference book on bears and found a beautiful pale blonde grizzly cub, so I imagined her jumping into a pile of leaves for the painting.

Here is the link to the eBay auction.  It is done on a high quality gallery-wrapped canvas so there is no need to frame! Thanks for looking!

Wishing for a Well....or, Help! I Need Advice on Water Wells!

The Atlanta area is still in the grip of a bad drought due to a la Nina winter coming on, our wonderful governor wants to hog up all the water so the people downstream in Alabama and Florida don't get any, and he wants building and development to just keep right on going!  Yuh think his pockets are being padded?  Hmm....

As a gardener and beekeeper, I have deep concerns about what I am to do next year.  I like to can and freeze my food for the winter, plus I also ensure that my bees stay safely on my property instead of running off to somebody else's where they get into some pesticides.  I can see this watering ban extending to home veggie gardens and businesses.

I started researching wells.  I got an estimate of around 10K from one company, but according to a website it should only cost on average around 5K including electric pump.  I saw a "do it yourself" kit in Lehman's where you drive a well shaft with a sledgehammer!  (That would be hubby dear's job, hee hee).  Supposedly the ground water in this area is only about 8 feet below the surface.  Could somebody please tell me more about the process of having a well dug?  Thanks!

Kathy
