My first blog entry

Hi all!  This is my first entry into my first blog!  It is late summer here in Georgia, still hot as blue blazes and humid, but you can tell the time of year by what is ripe to eat.  The tomatoes are petering out, succumbing to the many fungal diseases in the soil, while the figs and pears are coming in.  The wild muscadines are just about to peak so I hope to make some jelly to sell at our local farmers market.  I have 4 hives of bees and very soon I will need to medicate them against mites and Nosema or bee dysentery!  The water is down at the Chattahoochee but still pretty cold.  This time of year when the stocking has stopped, the trout are very wary and harder to catch.  September 8th is the start of archery deer season but it is hard to get excited as it is so hot, the ticks are horrible, and I have never gotten a deer with a bow.  I miss one every year!  Get all excited and just blow my shot.  Oh well!  I see lots of neat things while in the woods.  Once I saw a cuckoo land on a tree limb with a fuzzy caterpillar.  He beat it on the limb  a couple of times and then swallowed it down.  Cuckoos are one of the few birds that eat furry caterpillars.  That is only the 3rd time in my life that I have ever seen one.

Tonight I hopefully will have time to work on my painting for ALA, the eBay group Animal Loving Artists.  The theme is animals with pumpkins.
